Reader Participation – What would your last meal be?

If for whatever reason – you knew you were going to die immediately after your last meal was finished – what would that meal be?

I want some detail here folks – there was a great book that was published in 2007 called My Last Supper: 50 Great Chefs and Their Final Meals / Portraits, Interviews, and Recipes that included interviews with 50 top chef’s where they were asked what they would eat for their final meal.   For the fans that think Bourdain is sexy – please note that his portrait in the book is a nude shot with just a strategically placed leg bone protecting his … uh… modesty.

So my question for you is this.  If you were requesting your last meal – what would it be.  Something home made?  Something from a famous restaurant?   A hot dog  from your favorite street stand in Chicago or NYC?

  1. I'd be really torn on this one between a Chicago Style Pizza (Cheese and Sausage) from Gino's East and a Filet at Craftsteak with garlic mashed potatoes and asparagus with hollandaise (with something in a South African Red to round it all out)

    Some of these are crazy.

  4. Geez Buble' – you stop and make a great reply – but forget to answer the actual question. What would you eat?

  5. Franny's Clam Pie or Korean seafood pancake with kimchee. Or Nobu's Yellowtail with jalapeno… or a straight-up 2 lb lobster with all the fixin's. Or whole sea bass with hot chilis & ginger… do I have to decide right NOW?

A roasted chicken, green bean casserole, ground veal stuffed olives breaded and fried, bacon wrapped fillet mignon medallions, butter squash, a pitcher of Stone Brewery Double Bastard ale, the chocolate cheese cake that reminds me of a loved one, and a double Bombay Gin dry martini. I could die happy after that.

  7. I'm from Kansas City, MO (currently living in Boulder, CO) but most of my last meal wishes are local places from there:

    # Arthur Bryants pulled pork BBQ sandwich with an entire plate of lard fries and a cup of their dill pickle slices
    # A side of Kraft Macaroni and Cheese (Scooby-Doo shapes)
    # A chocolate shake from LC’s Hamburgers (KC local joint) and a big glass of cherry Pepsi with Sonic ice to wash it all down.
    # And a chocolate cupcake with peanut butter frosting from Ina Garten’s “Barefoot at Home” cookbook with a big glass of whole milk.

  8. Without a doubt, it would be sushi. Plenty of salmon, tuna, octopus and eel. Better work some soft shell crab rolls and salmon skin rolls in there, too. Thanks a lot – now I just drooled on my computer. I simply can't resist Asian flavors.

Pasta made with fresh black truffles, bresaola on a bed of fresh argula with lemon Pasolivo olive oil and balsamic vinegar from weolive, in season tomatoes from Wind Rose farm (all in Paso Robles, CA) with fresh basil and fresh mozzarella with a sprinkle of sea salt, gelato from Nado Gelateria in Coronado, CA and a glass (or three) of Per Cazo wine (a startup winery in Paso Robles, CA)

  11. It would have to be something I've never had before. Neil Gaiman has a story (The Sunbird of Suntown maybe?) about eating a phoenix, but that's probably not realistic. Part of me likes the idea of eating Ortolan…, but 99% of me feels that idea is too evil. Also, it doesn't really sound very good. Does a smoke come with the meal? If so, I definitely want to finish with an Indian bidi; stupid IL politicians made them illegal for no real reason, so I haven't had one in years. Hmm, what would I eat? Frankly, I think I would ask for a smorgasbord of dishes (tapas style, so I can taste a bunch) from around the world. It's all about new experiences.

    Tofu Green Curry THAI Hot. (From my fav Thai place in Jax, Fl. Taste of Thai)
    Fresh Veggie Spring Rolls.
    Naga Truffles (Vosgeschocolate)
    Venti Quad Black and White Mocha with extra Whip from Starbucks.
